Riverside runs away with meet

RESERVE – The Riverside boys’ track team had a dominant time at the Riverside Meet Friday afternoon, taking first in 15 of the 17 events.

The Rebels easily won the points competition with 202 points. Fisher wasa distant second with 69 points, followed by Riverdale with 41, Ridgewood with 31 and St. James with 2.Richie Hymel got things started in the high jump, taking first with a jump of five feet, eight inches. Teammate Craig Tearney was right behind,clearing the bar at 5-6 to place second.

The Rebels also took first and second in the pole vault with Jay Bailey clearing the bar at 10-0 and Rene Fasola doing it at 9-0. Joel Levin wasfirst in the long jump at 19-11.5 with teammate Ronnie Mason third witha jump of 19-0.5. Mason was first in the triple jump with a jump of 41-11.5 with Levin right behind at the same distance.In the throwing events, John Champagne was first in the shot put with a throw of 44-1. Teammate Joseph Trosclair was second at 41-7.5 whileLavar Celestine of St. James was fifth at 38-11.5. Riverside’s BryanWeber was first in the javelin with his throw of 149-3 with teammate John Duhe third at 140-0. St. James’ Bennett Cunningham came in fifthwith a throw of 127-10.

The Rebels’ Jason Hayes was first in the discus with his throw of 120-8.5with teammate Dustin Duhe third at 105-10.5.In the track competition, Riverside’s Travis Fox was second in the 1600 meters with a time of five minutes, 19.22 seconds. Teammate Adam Bugaywas third in 5:31.33. Hymel won the hurdles in 15.7 seconds with Baileycoming in third in 19.37. Bradley Hodges was first in the 100 in 11.18,narrowly edging out teammate Avery Jolly who was second in 11.20.Hodges also won the 299 in 23.49 with Jolly again right behind in 23.99.Mike Sparcella took the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:10.90. Fox wassecond in 2:22.43. Mason was first in the 400 in 54.05. Ryan Weber tookthird in 57.66 while Jonathan Oubre was sixth in 1:00.45. The Rebels swept the relays, taking the 400 in 45.3 seconds, the 800 in1:33 and the 1600 in 3:51.
