Relays lead ESJ to track win

THIBODAUX – East St. John used a team effort to take first in the boys’competition at the Thibodaux Relays Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats got first place finishes from their 400- and 800-meter relay teams to finish with 66 points. Walker was second with 51 points,followed by Lutcher with 45. In fourth was Assumption with 43 pointswith St. Amant fifth with 39.The 400-meter team finished in 42.69 seconds, ahead of St. Amant in42.84 and Lutcher in 43.08. The 800-meter team had a winning time of1:28.68, defeating Lutcher which came in at 1:29.88.East St. John’s Chris Bush won the triple jump with a jump of 47 feet, fiveinches. Lutcher’s Clarence Weber was third with a jump of 44-4. Bush wasalso second in the long jump with an effort of 23-3. Destrehan’s DamianRichard beat him out for first with a jump of 23-4.
Lutcher’s William Adams was first in the javelin with a throw of 195-11.
In the track events, West St. John’s Arlando Comminie was second in thehurdles with a time of 14.67. Lutcher’s David Pittman came in third in the400 in 49.45. Raynell Joseph of East St. John was second in the 200 in10.98 while teammate Cornell Watkins was third in 11.16.In the girls’ competition, host Thibodaux took first with 69 points. EastAscension was right behind with East St. John third with 44 points.Lutcher’s Tiffany Griffin was second in the javelin with a throw of 114- 10. East St. John’s Courtney Drayton was third with her throw of 114-1.5.Teammate Pamela Winston took second in the discus with a throw of 103- 11.
The Lady Cats’ 800- and 400-meter relay teams both were third with times of 1:46.93 and 50.89, respectively.
