Destrehan finishes second at WSJ

EDGARD – Destrehan’s Damian Richard won three events and West St. John’sArlando Comminie kept his streak alive in the hurdles to highlight the River Parishes’ effort at the West St. John Ram Relays Friday afternoon.Epsicopal of Baton Rouge took the boys’ title with 151 points. Destrehan wassecond with 94 points, followed by Christian Life with 60.5 and Carver with52. Newman finished in fifth place with 44 points with West St. John rightbehind in sixth with 42.5 points.McMain, led by outstanding field performer Verlesha Lassair, was the girls’ champion with 122 points. Episcopal was right behind with 114 points,followed by Christian Life with 77 and Newman with 59. Destrehan finishedfifth with 39 points and West St. John 11th with eight.Richard started with a victory in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 4.5inches. Teammate Earnest Joseph was second with a jump of 21-3.5 withDonovan Pierre of West St. John in third with a jump of 20-1.5. Richard alsoadded a victory in the triple jump with a jump of 42-7.5 and was named themeet’s outstanding field performer. DeQuincy Noble of Destrehan was fourthwith a jump of 40-6.
Richard got his third victory in the 100 meters, finishing with a time of 10.93 seconds.Pierre took the high jump competition, clearing the bar at 6-2. Noble wassecond with a jump of 6-0. Tremaine Nathan of West St. John placed sixthafter jumping 5-6.
Destrehan’s Jeremy Parquet was second in the shot put with a throw of 46- 1.5. West St. John’s Lionel Howard was sixth with a throw of 41-9.5.Tremaine Howard of West St. John was fourth in the javelin with a throw of163-3. And Destrehan’s Brian Washington placed sixth in the discus with athrow of 115-10.5. Comminie crossed the line first in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.29seconds. Comminie has placed first in the event in every competition thisoutdoor season after placing seventh at the state indoor meet.
Corey Eugene of Destrehan was second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.27 seconds. Teammate Darnell Arlene was third in the 200 meters with atime of 23.06. Destrehan won the 400 meter relay in 43.14 while West St.John was third in the 800 meters in 1:33.78.In the girls’ competition, Destrehan’s Diamonique Pollard was first in the javelin with a throw of 96-10. Pollard was also sixth in the discus with athrow of 72-7.
West St. John’s Oneka Lewis was second in the shot put with a throw of 34-5.5. Lassair took both the discus and the shot put with throws of 113-10and 38-0, respectively.
Makesa Melancon of Destrehan placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.40. Teammate Tanzeleda Ezewodo was second in the 200 in 27.60.
