NEW ORLEANS – A Montz woman was struck while walking along Interstate 10 on Mardi Gras. She lay at Charity Hospital, identity unknown, until shewas finally identified Friday.

Alice Holland, 47, originally from the San Francisco area, went to her first Carnival parade, Zulu, and was headed home when she was apparently struck on Interstate 10 near the Metairie Road exit.

She had last been seen with friends near Canal and Galvez at about 3 p.m.after the Zulu parade passed.

Drivers stopped to assist Holland, one (a Tulane University Hospital pediatrician) who used a plastic snake throw to assist her breathing.

Holland sustained compound fractures of both legs and one arm and also cracked her skull, which required brain surgery.

Holland was taken to Charity Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. She was identified by a hospital employee who located herboyfriend, Vincent Brumfield, who was already searching for her.
