Bulldogs edge Braves at Sugar Cane Relays

EDGARD – Lutcher won six events to edge H.L. Bourgeois at the Sugar CaneRelays held at West St. John Thursday afternoon.The Bulldogs finished with 157 points while the Braves ended up with 143.
Host West St. John was third with 70 points, followed by Carver with 59 andJohn Curtis with 58. St. James was eighth with three points.Lutcher’s Donnie Francois, just back from basketball, took the high jump with a jump of 6-0. West St. John’s Donovan Pierre was second at 5-10, followedby teammate Tremaine Howard at 5-8. Lutcher’s Jeremy Foreman alsojumped 5-8 in placing fourth.
Lutcher’s Clarence Weber won the triple jump with a jump of 41-10 1/2 and was third in the long jump at 19-8 1/2. Teammate Ricardo Williams wassecond in the long jump at 20-0. H.L. Bourgeois’ Briderick Collins won theevent with a jump of 20-11. West St. John’s Brad Boudoin was fourth in thetriple jump in 35-4 1/2.
The Bulldogs’ William Adams won the javelin with a throw of 192-4. TheRams’ Howard was second with a 175-2, followed by Lutcher’s T.R. Ricks(160-7), West St. John’s Pierre (145-4), and St. James Gerren Davis (140-1).
West St. John’s Coy Miller placed second in the discus with a throw of 118-2and third in the shot put with a 43-3 3/4. Bourgeois’ Adam Thibodaux wonboth events. Lutcher’s Courtney Long was third in the discus with a 110-0while West St. John’s Lionel Howard was fourth in the shot put with a 42-101/4.
Lutcher’s Ricky Reed was second in the pole vault with a vault of 10-0 while teammate Blake Allemand was fourth with one of 8-0. Bourgeois’ DanielTrosclair placed first by clearing 15-6.
Lutcher opened the running events with a first place time of one minute, 28 seconds in the 800-meter relay. The Bulldogs also took first in the 400-meter relay (43.24) and second in the 1600 (3:38.70) behind Bourgeois.West St. John was fourth in the 800 (1:33.4) and 400 (45.29). The Bulldogs’A.J. Lear added a third place in the 1600 meters in 5:19.63.In one of the most anticipated races, West St. John’s Arlanda Comminieedged Lutcher’s Jerron Wishom, 14.30-14.60, in the 110-meter hurdles.Lutcher’s Williams was third in 15.08. Lutcher’s David Pittman won the 400meters in 49.91. Teammate Kenneth Johnson was second in the 200 in 22.89while Lance Allen was third in the 100 in 11.29. Bourgeois’ Daniel Trosclairtook first in both events.
Bourgeois won the girls’ competition with 162 points. McMain was secondwith 153 points, followed by West St. John (46) and St. James (32).St. James’ Tremika Lewis was second in the long jump (14-8 1/2) and fourthin the 100-meter dash. Teammate Ashton Grant was second in the discus(80-9 1/2).
West St. John was led by second place finishes by Oneka Lewis in the shotput (31-9 1/2) and Kita Harry in the hurdles (21.5). Harry also placed third inthe triple jump with a jump of 28-1/2 and fourth in the long jump with a 12- 11.
LaToya Borne was third in the hurdles (21.97) while Lyfonda Morris was thirdin the discus (66-7 1/2).
