Destrehan, Hahnville eliminated in regionals

DESTREHAN – Genevieve Duryee tapped in a deflection at the 30-minute mark of the first half, giving Mandeville a 1-0 victory over Destrehan in the Division I regionals Tuesday night at Destrehan.

Mandeville, the District 9-I champions with a 19-3-4 record, moved on to play St. Scholastica in the quarterfinals. Destrehan, the District 10-I champs,finished its season at 20-7-1.

The Lady Cats had a chance to tie the game with seven minutes left but Ester garatie’s shot hit the left goal post and bounced away. It wasDestrehan’s only shot of the night.

Destrehan’s defense, led by sweeper Natalie Robert, Lindsey Stewart and goalie Ashley Nelson, held Mandeville out of the net despite constant attacks in the Destrehan zone.

St. Thomas More 6,Hahnville 0

BOUTTE – St. Thomas More jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead on its way to a6-0 victory at Hahnville Tuesday night in the Division I regionals.

St. Thomas More improved to 20-1 overall and advanced to playFontainebleau in the quarterfinals. Hahnville, the District 10-I runner-up,finished its season at 18-8-1.

Tiffany Garber and Rachel Girouard each had two goals for the Lady Cougars.

Hahnville goalie Jennifer Hicks made eight saves in being named the Lady Tigers’ top defensive player.
