Crusaders edge HHS

NEW ORLEANS – Brother Martin out-scored Hahnville 2-1 on penalty kicks as the Crusaders advanced to the Division I quarterfinals with a 3-2 victory Wednesday afternoon at Pan American Stadium.
Brother Martin (30-3-2) will play Acadiana in the next round. Acadianadefeated Warren Easton, 1-0, in overtime Wednesday.
Hahnville, the District 7-I champions, finished its season at 17-6-3.
Goals by Travis Webre and Mark Griffin had given the Tigers a 2-1 halftime lead. Brother Martin rallied to tie the score at the 54-minute mark of thesecond half on a goal by Scott Schneider.
Both teams were held scoreless through the two 10-minute overtime periods and the two five-minute sudden death sessions. After Brother Martin’s BradJohnson stopped 4-of-5 penalty kicks by the Tigers, Brad Gravolet and Danny Heine knocked in shots to give the Crusaders the win.
It was the second straight time that Hahnville had taken a game deep into overtime. The Tigers defeated Rummel, 1-0, in the bi-district round on a goalby Tim Sirmon off a pass by Brandon Kelley in the final minute of the second five-minute sudden death period.
