Softball seasons starts with Comet Jamboree

LAPLACE – The crack of the bat could be heard once more at Lady Comet Field Thursday afternoon as the St. Charles Catholic Jamboree got the 2000softball season underway.

St. Charles Catholic, making the move up to Class 3A this season, opened thejamboree with a 9-0 victory over Reserve Christian. In the night cap,Hahnville defeated Reserve Christian, 16-1.

St. Charles Catholic got it started in the top of the first as Cristin Clementled off with a single against Reserve Christian starter Amber Keller, stole second and third and scored on an errant throw. After Jenni Traina reachedon an error and Jessie Zeringue on a fielder’s choice, Lacey Trepagnier walked to load the bases.

Courtney Vicknair then drilled a single to left, scoring Traina and courtesy runner Ashley Loupe. Katie Arcuri and Kristen Clement followed with runscoring ground outs, making it 5-0 after the first inning.

The Lady Comets added to that lead in the third. Arcuri led off with a single,Kristen Clement followed with a walk and Joanie Kepler reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. One out later, Cristin Clement beat out a bunt toscore Arcuri. Traina then brought in two more runs with a single to left.Trepagnier delivered a two-out hit to score Clement, increasing the lead to 9- 0.

Trepagnier pitched three perfect innings, striking out four.

Reserve Christian jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Hahnville in the second game as Mary Venus beat out an infield grounder and scored on a three-base error. Hahnville responded in the bottom of the inning as Erin Crisham KellieLandeche each singled and stole second to start the inning. Courtnie Frickeybrought in both with a single and Colleen Lockhart followed with a double to make it 3-0.

Melanie Delaune tripled and Fallon Cancienne doubled to bring in runs. JackieWitmer brought in another run with a single and Bridgit Humphreys added two with a double to left. Singles by Landeche and Delaune and a ground out byLockhart brought in three more runs. Humphreys brought in the final tworuns in the inning with a ground rule double to left, making it 15-0.

The jamboree continues today beginning at 9 a.m.
