LAPLACE – Thanks to the St. John Parish Council, Clerk of Court ElianaDeFrancesch will have more space to store old records. Tuesday, the councilvoted to allow DeFrancesch to store old and dead records in the old Edgard branch of the St. John Library directly behind the Edgard Courthouse. “We are in dire need of space for the old and dead records,” DeFrancesch told the council.

Since the new Ronald Borne Sr. Library opened up last month farther downLouisiana Highway 18, the old library has been vacant and DeFrancesch thought it would a perfect place to store records.

Councilman Lester Rainey Jr. wanted to know if this shouldn’t be a temporarymove because the old library wasn’t really suitable for old records. Raineywas afraid sunlight and mold would ruin the records if kept there too long.

DeFrancesch said she would have the parish engineer C.J. Savoie check outthe old library to see if it was conducive to storing records.

Also, the council amended the motion and said the Clerk of Court could not use the library building for more than a year.

The motion passed unanimously.
