Cammon hosts seniors for brunch

ST. ROSE – Albert Cammon Middle School’s 4-H Club welcomed more than300 area senior citizens Wednesday to its 25th annual Christmas brunch.

The assembly, in the school cafeteria, featured musical entertainment by the student band and chorus, gifts and a stage loaded with door prizes.

Principal Sylvia Zeno and moderator Merlin Jackson welcomed the guests to the morning, and Rowena Smith, joined by her niece, Betty, led them in a rousing sing-along of Christmas musical favorites.

Band director Kelvin Harrison and vocal music director Therese Howard brought smiles of holiday happiness to the roomful of senior citizens.

Several door prizes were then awarded, with Joyce Cupit of New Sarpy receiving a 25-inch color TV. This was followed by Smith’s stirringdelivery of “To God Be the Glory,” and the guests joined in on several more Christmas selections.

Many individuals, public officials, organizations and businesses made donations toward this event. The Rev. W.O. Cottingham of First BaptistChurch of St. Rose delivered the invocation.Businesses included A.M.E. Inc., Rex Hymel Inc., Riviera Fitness Center,Trey Wah Restaurant, First American Bank of St. Rose, EsperanzaRestaurant, Gnots Reserve Inc., Winn-Dixie, Kentwood Spring Water,Walgreen Drug Stores, New Orleans Saints, Majoria Supermarket, Reliable Inc., Francis Fundraising, Bill’s Dollar Store, Popeye’s of Destrehan, BungeCorp., IMTT of St. Rose, Shell Chemical, Arrow/Sysco Foods, Louisiana GasCo., Hibernia Bank of Boutte, Babin Insurance Agency, BarberitoPhotographers, Big Wheel, Wendy’s, New Orleans Steamship Co., RiverParish Oil, Climb Map Inc., St. Charles Hospital, Lane Causey, Migliore’sStore and Chaisson & Chaisson.

Public officials who made donations included Sen. Ron Landry, Senator-elect Joel Chaisson II, Sheriff Greg Champagne, Parish President-elect Albert Laque, Assessor Clyde “Rock” Gisclair, Clerk of Court Charles Oubre Jr., School Board member Ronald St. Pierre, School Board memberClarence “Sonny” Savoie and Justice of the Peace Julie Carmouche.

Individuals included C.J. Jones, Allen Gautreaux, Diane LeBoyd, BrendaRidgdell, the Cammon family, the Albert Cammon staff, Jerry Desselle, Julie Bertucci and Susan Heading.
