Pioneers rally past Hahnville in SCC tourney

LAPLACE – Crescent City Baptist rallied from a first-quarter deficit to defeat Hahnville, 47-36, and capture the championship of the Wendy’s Lady Comets Classic at St. Charles Catholic Wednesday night.Crescent City, which lost to E.D. White before defeating St. CharlesCatholic and Hahnville in the tournament, improved to on the season.
Hahnville, 6-2, finished second in the tournament after winning two of three games while E.D. White was third.Hahnville jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the opening frame against the Pioneers Thursday night as Toyelle Rickson scored eight of her team-high 13 points on a jumper, two layups and a put back. Crescent City pulled towithin 11-10 by the end of the quarter as Kristy Dody knocked down a jumper from the left side and Johanna McKnight found Samantha Jordan underneath.
Crescent City took the lead for good on its opening possession of the second quarter on a drive by McKnight. That lead grew to 19-11 on a driveinside by Dody.
Hahnville chipped into the lead, pulling to within 19-18 on a jumper by Liz Landry and a 3-pointer from the left side by Karen Bass. But McKnightgrabbed a steal on Hahnville’s next possession and Dody hit a jumper, helping the Pioneers to a 22-18 halftime lead.
Jordan made it 26-18 early in the third quarter by driving in for a layup. Ajumper from the left side by Landry brought the Lady Tigers to within six but Sarah Domar followed with a jumper herself and Jordan found Dody downcourt after a rebound, building the lead back to 10. McKnight scoredon a put back and a layup to make it 40-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hahnville made it a 42-29 game with 5:47 left on a put back by Cashmir White. A 3-pointer from the right side by Carion Somme and a layup byLashandra Lorio off a pass from Landry brought the Lady Tigers to within 45-34. After two free throws by Dody, Lorio scored off a steal by Sommeto make it 47-36 but the Lady Tigers could not get any closer.
Dody led Crescent City with 16 points. Domar tossed in 11 points withMcKnight adding another 10.
White added six points for Hahnville. Lorio and Bass had five points apiece.
