During this holiday season, if you ask people what they are thankful for, most of them will give answers like my family, my house, my health, a steady job, etc….If asked this question I would most likely answer the same way. But, as I satdown to write this article, I began to think about what Thanksgiving really is.

Often with holiday celebrations we tend to forget the true origin of the holiday.

The Thanksgiving celebration began with the pilgrims, who left their homeland for the sole purpose of religious freedom. Although their country claimed to beBible-believing, they were all forced to go to one church in which the king was the head. This contradicted the Bible, which says God is the only head of thechurch, so they left to live in a foreign land where they could worship freely.

Nowadays, anyone who is willing to stand up and serve their God fully is called a “radical” and an “extremist.” Does this mean our Thanksgiving holiday is acelebration of people who were “radical” about God? It sure does.

The pilgrims were thankful they could now worship God freely; they were also thankful He had blessed them and provided for them. God had seen them throughthe stand they had taken. We can learn a very important lesson from thepilgrims. If you stand up for God, he will always provide.I am thankful for the freedom to worship my God in whatever way I choose. It issomething that I often take for granted, but it is something so precious to me.

This holiday season, remember to thank your Maker who has blessed you so very much.
