Rebels get offense in gear for playoffs against Fisher

LAFITTE – The Riverside offense was in high gear Friday night, rolling up 504 yards in offense, as the Rebels closed out the regular season with a 35-7 victory at Fisher Friday night.

Riverside (9-1 overall, 5-1 in District 9-2A) will host a bi-district playoff game next week as the second place team in the district. Fisherfinished the season at 0-10, 0-6 in district play.

Riverside got off to a slow start Friday, having a punt hitting an up-man early in the game. But after recovering a Fisher fumble, the Rebels drove68 yards in 11 plays, capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Casey Remondet. Kaleb Mayes added the extra point, giving the Rebels a 7-0 lead.After Riverside held Fisher, the Rebels went 60 yards in six plays for their second score. Damian Melancon found Jeff Roccaforte from 23 yardsout on the first play of the second quarter and Mayes added the extra point, increasing the lead to 14-0.

Fisher was forced to punt on its next possession but got the ball back after the Rebels fumbled the kick. After a face masking penalty againstthe Rebels, the Gators attempted a field goal that was short and downed on the Riverside 6-yard line.

The Rebels quickly answered as Remondet took the hand off and went 94 yards for the score. Mayes’ extra point made it 21-0. The Rebels addedanother score before halftime, going 71 yards in nine plays, capped by an 18-yard trouchdown run by Brandon Delaneuville.

Riverside took the second half kickoff and marched 67 yards in 15 plays.

Melancon found Danny Stein from 15 yards out for the score, making it 35- 0 at the end of the third quarter.

Fisher moved 97 yards behind three 15-yard penalties by the Rebels in the fourth quarter. Robye Hunter capped the drive with a 3-yard run and addedthe extra point for the final score.

Remondet finished the game with 156 yards on eight carries, all in the first half. He finished the regular season with 1,078 yards on the ground.Delaneuville had five carries for 66 yards. Jared St. Amant added fourcarries for 56 yards while Neil Richard had four attempts for 56 yards.

Twelve Riverside players carried the ball 35 times for 351 yards.

Melancon completed 6-of-8 passes for 73 yards. Michael Schoen was 6-of-9 for 80 yards. Roccaforte had two catches for 44 yards. Gary Entremontcontributed four for 33 and Remondet two for 26. Seven receivers caughtballs for 113 yards.

HAMMOND 26, DHS 25

HAMMOND – Jim Hall kicked a 44-yard field goal with 22 seconds left, lifting Hammond to a 26-25 victory over Destrehan Friday night.

Hammond finished the season at 7-3 overall while Destrehan ended up 8- 2.

Allan Decker caught touchdown passes of 6 and 35 yards from Ivan Mashia, the second giving the Wildcats a 25-23 lead with 2:38 left in the game.

DeChad Ward got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a 2-yard run in the second quarter and Kendall Williams added a 1-yard fumble recovery in the third quarter.

Joe Ray returned a fumble 22 yards for the Tigers. Brady Sledge hadtouchdown passes to Brice Albritton and Jason Warde
