GEOFFREY MICHEL / L’Observateur / November 2, 1999

A week of tragedy hit us all last week. Payne Stewart, who was internationallyknown for his knickers and outrageous outfits, died in a plane crash going to Texas Monday of last week. Stewart was extremely good, then went into aslump. Then he found God and his life changed around. You could always see aWWJD (What Would Jesus Do) bracelet on his wrist when he was playing golf. Healso became a U. S. Open champion this year. He was killed in his prime.Paul O’Neil’s dad also passed away this week. O’Neil is a baseball player for theNew York Yankees. He was playing in the World Series when this happened. Iguess Charles Dickens said it best when he said, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.”An Egyptian plane crashed in the Atlantic killing 217 people Sunday morning.

And Greg Moore, 24, was killed when he hit a wall at 220 m.p.h. in a seasonending CART race.

May God be with all of these families at this time.

Although all of these deaths were unexpected, death will certainly come to all of us. The question is, “Are you ready to die?” “Are you ready to enter eternity?””If you died right now, would you go to heaven, or to hell?” Jesus said in John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”Before you meet with death, make sure you’ve met Jesus.
