Buffinet scores four TD in Tarpons’ win

GALLIANO – Gavin Buffinet scored four times for South Lafourche, leading the Tarpons to a 41-14 victory over Hahnville Friday night in District 7- 5A action.

South Lafourche improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in district play.

Hahnville fell to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in district.

After a scoreless first quarter, Kade Rogers made it 3-0 Hahnville with a 26-yard field goal with 9:21 left in the second quarter. South Lafourchequickly answered as Buffinet scored on an 18-yard run. The successful 2-point attempt made it 8-3 with 8:07 left in the half. A 3-yard run byBuffinet and a 2-point conversion made it 16-3 at the 3:32 mark. Rogerscut the deficit to 16-6 with a 40-yard field goal with 1:06 remaining before halftime.

Jonathan Hanberry scored the only points in the third quarter on a 28-yard run with 4:55 left, increasing the lead to 22-6.

Buffinet got his third score early in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard pass from Hanberry, making it 29-6. Dawan Landry brought the Tigers to within29-14 with a 5-yard run and a pass to Mark Young for the two-point conversion with 8:10 left in the game.

But it would be Buffinet again, this time from 2 yards out, increasing the lead to 35-14 with 2:06 remaining. Cody Collins iced the game with a 60-yard interception return with 46 seconds left.

South Lafourche out-gained the Tigers, 341-331, led by 147 yards rushing by Joshua Allen on 15 attempts.

Hahnville steps away from district action next week to host Brother Martin. South Lafourche hosts Destrehan.
