Tigers’ special teams comes up big late

TERREBONNE – With its offense struggling to get the ball in the end zone during a downpour at South Terrebonne Friday night, Hahnville needed its special teams to come up with a big play in the closing minutes The Tigers got it, recovering a fumble at the South Terrebonne 20-yard line with less than two minutes remaining. Darryl Honor would cap thedrive with a 3-yard run in the final 20 seconds, giving the Tigers a 15-14 victory and snapping a three-game losing streak.

Hahnville improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in District 7-5A. SouthTerrebonne fell to 2-4 and 0-2.

Honor finished the game with 202 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Honor gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead with a 70-yard touchdown run inthe first quarter and later added a 53-yard scoring run.

Dwayne Landry completed 8-of-15 passes for 72 yards and added 21 yards on 11 carries. The Tigers finished with 222 yards rushing on 38 attempts.The Gators scored on a field goal and touchdown runs of 4 and 45 yards by Joseph Cooper. The latter score gave the Gators a 15-14 lead with threeminutes remaining. South Terrebonne then forced the Tigers to punt beforefumbling the return.

South Terrebonne rushed for 260 yards on 43 attempts but were held to minus 1 yard passing.

Hahnville travels to South Lafourche next Friday.
