The West St. John Booster Club will announce advertisements forlocal candidates at Rams home football games this season.

The advertisement will be announced twice during the games for $50 per game. The advertisement should be prepared with 20 words or less and besubmitted to the booster club by the Tuesday prior to the game.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring several huntersafety classes this summer. Classes will be held at the St. John ParishSheriff’s Office, Division Headquarters Squad Room, located at Deputy Barton Granier Drive in LaPlace.

Class times will be from 5:30-9:15 p.m. Saturday’s class will begin at 8a.m. at Nick’s Shooting Range in Garyville. The schedule of classes is asfollows: Sept. 21-23, 25; Oct. 19-21, 23; and Nov. 16-18, 20.There is no charge for these classes. Registration is mandatory. Minimumage is 10 years old. The Lutcher Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at thePublic Relations Building across from the high school. Next week’s guestspeaker will be Peter Finney of the Times-Picayune.

The St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesdaynight in the school cafeteria. Next week’s guest speaker will be ChrisScelfo, Tulane head football coach.

The Riverside Quarterback Club will meet every Wednesday at 7 p.m.In the school cafeteria.

The Louisiana Big Bass Rodeo, sponsored by the Louisiana Lions, will be held Saturday at Cypress Bend on Toledo Lake. Entry fee is $60 perperson; Big Bass competition is $10 per person.

Registration will be held at the host marina Saturday morning beginning at 5 a.m. Mail-in entries must be postmarked on/or before the Monday priorto the tournament date. Entries will receive boat identification numbersaccording to the order received. Any application received after thedeadline will be charged a $15 per person late fee.

The Kiwanis Club of Hammond is holding its Ninth Annual Tour de Tangipahoa bike ride Saturday.

The event, which will be run through the heart of Tangipahoa Parish and assists the Hammond Kiwanis Club in its many community projects, will feature 30- and 62-mile rides.

The entry cost is $35. A free T-shirt will be given to all who ride.Refreshments, including sports juice, candy, fruit and water will be provided at numerous rest stops along the route. A free jambalaya lunchwill be await riders at the conclusion of the tour.

Check-in time for the tour will be at 7 a.m. in Cate Square in downtownHammond. St. Peter School is holding its Sixth Annual Alumni and Friends GolfTournament Monday at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace.

Events include a four-man scramble tournament with 1 p.m. shotgun start,a putting contest, lunch with continuous beverage service and a meal with presentation of door prizes and awards at the conclusion of the tournament. The New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding its “Big Swing” Golf Tournament Tuesday at Lakewood Country Club.

There is a 11:30 a.m. check-in, noon luncheon and 1 p.m. tee time. The costis $125 per person and includes green fees, cart, lunch and awards ceremony.

The St. John United Way will host its first annual golf tournament onMonday, Oct. 25 at Riverlands Country Club.The tournament will have an 8 a.m. round and a 1:30 p.m. round. You can help support the St. John United Way by being a golf participantfor $100; sponsoring a hole for $100 each; sponsoring a team for $400; or donating door prizes. The FutureStars 1999 Fall Shootouts for Boys and Girls will beld at the University of Southern Mississippi Sept. 25-26.The Fall Shootouts gives high school boys’ and girls’ basketball players the opportunity to play against competition from around the country. Eachevent has a separate division for boys and girls and provides a format for the evaluation of an individual’s basketball skills and provides player exposure on a regional and national level.

Each player will be evaluated for college potential by Van Coleman and the FutureStars staff. The “FutureStars 1999 Fall Shootout Report” will bemailed to 500 colleges and will feature college level players. Collegecoaches will also be invited to personally attend the shootouts.

The American Diabetes Association will hold its annual “America’s Walk for Diabetes” Saturday, Oct. 2, at Southdown Plantation. Registration fo the walk begins at 7:30 a.m. and walkers and runnerscomplete the 3-mile course around Southdown Plantation beginning at 9 a.m. After the walk, participants can enjoy food from Copeland’sRestaurant as well as entertainment by local DJ, Michael Bray.

Participants can register for the walk or volunteer their efforts by calling the American Diabetes Assoc-iation at 1-800-254-WALK (9255) or by completing a registration form on the internet at www.diabetes.org. Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
