Cambre honored for museum support

NORCO – Rodney Cambre of Norco was recently honored by the Louisiana Association of Museums for outstanding individual museum support.

The LAM recently held its convention in the Kenner Rivertown Museum. Eachyear, the LAM recognizes individual and organizational achievements in the museum field at an awards luncheon during the convention.

Cambre, president of the River Road Historical Society Board of Directors, received this year’s award for his work on the Mule Barn project at Destrehan Plantation.

During the past two years, the River Road Historical Society has been involved in saving, relocating and restoring an original 1830’s raised mule barn. Cambreled the efforts of the RRHS to complete the project through his vision and dedicated efforts. He developed a plan to ready the site for the barn’s relocation.He did extensive research and worked with contractors to design improvements to the barn such as electricity, climate control, windows, etc, without significant changes to the historic structure.

This one-of-a-kind facility has greatly added to Destrehan Plantation’s site interpretation. The facility has been used for educational seminars such asteacher workshops, Education through historic preservation events, community meetings, parish government events in addition to rentals for special groups.
