Bulldogs’ units find ways to score

BOUTTE – Each of Lutcher’s units got on the scoreboard as the Bulldogs defeated Hahnville, 27-14, in the Roussel’s Goodyear River Parishes Jamboree Friday night at Hahnville’s Tiger Stadium.
Lutcher wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Chris Johnson took theopening kickoff at his 9, went up the middle, cut left and went down the left side to complete the 91-yard score.
T.J. Bourgeois connected on the extra point, giving Lutcher a 7-0 lead just16 seconds into the game. Damian Ursin later scored on two short rushesand David Pittman returned an interception 50 yards for another score.
Ursin finished with 45 yards on 7 carries. William Adams led all rusherswith 69 yards on 7 carries. Thomas Ricks completed 2 of 4 passes for 20yards and also ran for 12 yards.
Dawan Landry completed 6 of 13 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns for Hahnville. Brooke Dufrene led the Tigers with six carries for 36 yards. Hahnville moved into Lutcher territory on its second possession behind a 12-yard scramble by Landry and an 9-yard sweep by Dufrene. An 8-yardsack by Doyle Oubre and Troy Chaubaud ended the drive at the Lutcher 49.
After an interference call on the ensuing punt, Lutcher took over at its 39-yard line. On the first play, Adams took an option pitch right and sweptaround end for 23 yards. Ricks then hit Jerron Wishom on the left side for17 yards. Ursin followed with a sweep around the left side for 15 yards tothe 6. The Hahnville defense then held, stopping Ricks for a yard gain onfourth-and-goal from the 6.
The Tigers drove out to the 21 on a 14-yard pass from Landry to Darryl Honor but were pushed back to the 1 on a center snap over Landry’s head.
Kenneth Johnson returned the ensuing punt to the Hahnville 37. Wishomswept left for 16 yards on the first play and Adams followed with another sweep for 6 yards. Two plays later, Adams swept around right end for 13yards to the 2. Ursin bulled in from there, building the lead to 14-0 with1:34 remaining in the first half.
Hahnville again drove into Lutcher territory on its next possession as Landry hooked up with Carl Raymond over the middle for 16 yards. Butanother sack by Oubre and Chaubaud pushed the Tigers back to their 49.
It was the Lutcher defense’s turn to get on the board early in the second half. On the third play from scrimmage, Pittman grabbed a Landry pass atmidfield and took it down the right sideline for the score. Bourgeois’ extrapoint was no good, leaving the score at 20-0 with 14:26 remaining.
Lutcher would score again on its next possession after taking over at the Hahnville 28. After an offsides call against the Bulldogs, Adams burst upthe middle for 27 yards. Ursin then took it up the middle from 6 yards outfor the score. Bourgeois’ kick was good, making it 27-0 with 12:21 left.Hahnville got its offense untracked on its next possession. Taking over atthe 35, Dufrene went up the middle for nine yards. A 7-yard gain by Honorand an 11-yard pick up by Dufrene gave the Tigers a first down at the Lutcher 46.
The Tigers kept the ball on the ground as Dufrene gained five and Honor picked up 11 and 7 yards. Landry would pick up a first down with an 8-yardscramble up the middle to the 7 on fourth-and-1. On the next play, Landryhit Honor coming out of the back field with Honor taking it in down the left side.
Landry then found Matt Cummins in the right corner of the end zone for the two-point conversion, cutting the deficit to 27-8 with 6:25 remaining.
Hahnville came closer on its next possession after stopping the Bulldogs.
A pass interference call gave the Tigers a first down at the Lutcher 26.
Two plays later, Landry scrambled and found Kade Rogers streaking down the right sidelines for the score. The pass for two was caught out ofbounds, leaving the score at 27-14 with 3:25 remaining.
Lutcher was able to run out the clock as Ursin picked up gains of 13 and 11 yards on the final drive and Ricks scrambled for 12 yards.
