The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring several huntersafety classes this summer. Classes will be held at the St. John ParishSheriff’s Office, Division Headquarters Squad Room, located at Deputy Barton Granier Drive in LaPlace.

Class times will be from 5:30-9:15 p.m. Saturday’s class will begin at 8a.m. at Nick’s Shooting Range in Garyville. The schedule of classes is asfollows: Sept. 21-23, 25; Oct. 19-21, 23; and Nov. 16-18, 20.There is no charge for these classes. Registration is mandatory. Minimumage is 10 years old. The Lafourche Soccer Association, in conjunction with the Louisiana Soccer Association, will host a “U8/U10 Youth Module” level-coaching certificate course for under 8 and under 10 coaches Saturday at the Education Room of St. Anne General Hospital in Raceland from 9 a.m. to3:30 p.m.The course is open to all courses. The cost is $25 for coaches affiliated tothe state association and $35 for those non-affiliated. The Lutcher Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Thisweek’s guest speaker is Daryl Daye, Nicholls State University head football coach.

The St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesdaynight in the school cafeteria. This week’s guest speaker will be BillBumgardner, Times-Picayune sports.

The Riverside Quarterback Club will meet every Wednesday at 7 p.m.In the school cafeteria. This Wednesday’s guest speaker will be JimBasquil, sportscaster, WWL-TV sports.

The 15th Annual John Crum Golf and Ladies Tennis Tournaments will be held Monday, Oct. 18 at Belle Terre Country Club.Entertainment will be provided by Bits N’ Pieces. For more informationplease call (504) 652-9757.

The Louisiana Big Bass Rodeo, sponsored by the Louisiana Lions, will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at Cypress Bend on Toledo Lake. Entry fee is$60 per person; Big Bass competition is $10 per person.

Registration will be held at the host marina Saturday morning beginning at 5 a.m. Mail-in entries must be postmarked on/or before the Monday priorto the tournament date. Entries will receive boat identification numbersaccording to the order received. Any application received after thedeadline will be charged a $15 per person late fee.

St. Peter School is holding its Sixth Annual Alumni and Friends GolfTournament Monday, Sept. 20 at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace.Events include a four-man scramble tournament with 1 p.m. shotgun start,a putting contest, lunch with continuous beverage service and a meal with presentation of door prizes and awards at the conclusion of the tournament. The St. John United Way will host its first annual golf tournament onMonday, Oct. 25 at Riverlands Country Club.The tournament will have an 8 a.m. round and a 1:30 p.m. round. You can help support the St. John United Way by being a golf participantfor $100; sponsoring a hole for $100 each; sponsoring a team for $400; or donating door prizes. All contributions are tax deductible and all proceedsbenefit the St. John United Way campaign.To participate in the tournament, call Lenie Laiche at 535-7189.

The FutureStars 1999 Fall Shootouts for Boys and Girls will beld at the University of Southern Mississippi Sept. 25-26.The Fall Shootouts gives high school boys’ and girls’ basketball players the opportunity to play against competition from around the country. Eachevent has a separate division for boys and girls and provides a format for the evaluation of an individual’s basketball skills and provides player exposure on a regional and national level.

Each player will be evaluated for college potential by Van Coleman and the FutureStars staff. The “FutureStars 1999 Fall Shootout Report” will bemailed to 500 collges and will feature college level players. Collegecoaches will also be invited to personally attend the shootouts.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
