One afternoon I was watching Unsolved Mysteries. It was a story about trying tolocate a man’s family. This man lived in such a manner that would lead you tobelieve that his cash flow was very limited. He resided at the local YMCA and herefused to pay an extra five dollars a week to have a private bathroom. He atethe same $1.99 meal every day for breakfast and bought two extras for lunchand dinner. He saved virtually everything, from coffee cans to rubber bands. Hiswardrobe consisted solely of three identical suits and he always wore the same hat. He owned no car and he carried a gym bag everywhere that he went. When he died, investigators went through his room and found bank statements.
They soon discovered that this man had several bank accounts throughout the country, and his assets totaled over $250,000. I sat there puzzled as I tried tofigure out this man. I mean, he had all of these resources to live a happy andprosperous life, but he decided instead to live as a poor and needy man.
Then I realized that a lot of people live like this. We all have everything that weneed at our disposal to be happy and satisfied. Jesus died on the cross so thatwe would never have to go without anything. But instead of accepting Hissalvation, we reject it and choose to live selfishly in our sin. When we do this,we are acting like that man ignoring his wealth.
It doesn’t make sense to me why people chose to live unhappy and unfulfilled when they have all kinds of wonderful resources at their disposal. Chose todaythat you will accept the wonderful things that God is trying to give to you.
