GEOFFREY MICHEL / L’Observateur / August 11, 1999

This past Wednesday, my uncle, cousin and I embarked on a journey to Grand Isle.

Our goal was to fish, swim and most of all, just relax. This was my first evertrip to Grand Isle so my mom warned me about what was to come. She said thatGrand Isle was nothing like Gulf Shores. We arrived that night about 8 p.m. afterwe had eaten a few cheeseburgers at McDonald’s. The next morning my unclewoke up at 4:30 a.m. to go fishing. Now, I am not a morning person. I woke up andI felt like going right back to sleep. After getting the minnows, I dragged myselfto the water to fish. Well, you can probably guess what happened next. Yeah, you’re right, not one good fish. After a while we went back inside and the bestthing happened – we took naps. I think that was the best nap I have ever had.One thing people say you have to have while fishing is that you have to be patient. Patience is a virtue. One thing that became apparent to my uncle veryquickly was that my cousin, David, had no patience. (I think that I have morepatience than David, but that comes from sharing a bathroom with four sisters.)David would cast out, then bring it right back in. This annoyed my uncle verymuch. Near the end of the trip we caught 64 fish in the morning and at night webarely caught any, only 33, but yours truly had the biggest fish.

Yes, the trip to Grand Isle was fun, and I could write about it some more, but the only thing that I want to catch now is some sleep.
