NOAH Recreation is holding registration for football Sunday at NOAH Field. A $15 non-refundable deposit is required. For more information call the playground at 651-9002.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring several huntersafety classes this summer. Classes will be held at the St. John ParishSheriff’s Office, Division Headquarters Squad Room, located at Deputy Barton Granier Drive in LaPlace.

Class times will be from 5:30-9:15 p.m. Saturday’s class will begin at 8a.m. at Nick’s Shooting Range in Garyville. The schedule of classes is asfollows: Aug. 17-19, 21; Sept. 21-23, 25; Oct. 19-21, 23; and Nov. 16-18,20.

There is no charge for these classes. Registration is mandatory. Minimumage is 10 years old. Participants must attend each day for certification. Please call 652-9513 or 652-7058 to register or if you have any questions.

Ascension of Our Lord School in LaPlace will be hosting a Great Britain Celtic Soccer Camp Aug. 2-6 on the school fields from 9 a.m. till 4p.m.The camp will provide individual skills, understanding the game, passing, ball control and many other skills including tactics. The goal is to providefun while improving the game.

A half-day camp for boys and girls ages 9-12 will be held for $95 a player and a full-day camp for 11 year-olds and up will be held for $145 a player.

Drinks and a T-shirt will be provided. Participants are asked to bringwater bottles. Registration forms are available at the Ascension of OurLord rectory and the Summer Camp office.

Ascension of Our Lord Recreation will hold soccer registration on Sunday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug. 22, in the school lobby from 12:30-3 p.m.Registration will be held for the following age groups: boys and girls under 6 years old, boys under 10, girls under 10, boys under 11, boys under 12, girls under 12, boys under 13, boys under 14, girls under 14 and boys under 16.

Southwest Louisiana will be hosting the south’s largest open basketball tournament in Lake Charles, La. August 7-8. The purpose of the showcase is to aid young players in their quest to play college or pro baseball. A staff of qualified college coaches and pro scoutswill conduct field testing and games. Each participant will receive anevaluation of their playing abilities and this information will be put in a catalog and sent to area colleges and pro organizations.

A seminar will be conducted explaining how players can enhance their chances of being seen by college and pro organizations. Academicrequirements at each level of college ball will be explained. Other topicswill be explained and parents are urged to attend the seminar.

The showcase events are open to players freshmen through graduated seniors. The top players in each regional showcase will be invited to anational showcase at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 2-3, 1999.Regional sites in the area are Houston, Aug. 7-8; Tyler, Texas, Aug. 14-15;Dallas, Aug. 21-22; and Shreveport, Aug. 21-22.For more information contact Frank Dorner at (281) 469-6721.

The Louisiana Big Bass Rodeo, sponsored by the Louisiana Lions, will be held Saturday, September 18, at Cypress Bend on Toledo Lake. Entry feeis $60 per person; Big Bass competition is $10 per person.

Registration will be held at the host marina Saturday morning beginning at 5 a.m. Mail-in entries must be postmarked on/or before the Monday priorto the tournament date. Entries will receive boat identification numbersaccording to the order received. Any application received after thedeadline will be charged a $15 per person late fee.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
