Martin wins tour event

BATON ROUGE – Destrehan’s Scott Martin took first place at this weekend’s Louisiana Scratch Tour stop at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge.

Martin shot a 34-69-103 to defeat James Griffin by three shots. JeffreyJames of LaPlace shot a 36-77-113 to tie for 15th. Donnie Savoie was ashot back at 36-78-114. A.J. James finished at 41-78-119.

BOULOUCON WINS FLIGHT AT MID-AMATEUR – Karen Bouloucon of Destrehan shot a 89-86-175 to place first in the First Flight at the Louisiana Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship held at Shenandoah Country Club this weekend.

Bouloucon defeated Pat Fabacher of Metairie by two strokes. Luling’sCathy Campbell shot a 88-90-178 to place third.

Mandeville’s Martha Lang, the 1988 United States Golf Association’s Mid- Amateur Champion, won the Champ-ionship Flight with a 79-74-153, beating out Baker’s Jackie Achee by five strokes.

KAPLAN, HAYES, MOREL ON BOOSTERS – Three locals were recently selected to play for the New Orleans Boosters at the All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tourna-ment next month.

Chosen were Hahnville High School alum Josh Kaplan, Riverside alum Preston Hayes and Destrehan alum Tommy Morel.

Kaplan and Hayes both play for Delgado with Kaplan having signed with South-eastern Louisiana this year. Morel is playing for LSU.

DETILLIER RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP – Tana Detillier of Lutcher received a Louisiana Football Coaches Scholarship at the Louisiana High School Coaches Association business meeting last week.

Detillier was a valedictorian at Lutcher High School this past year.

Also at the meeting, Joe Kleinpeter of Fontainebleau, had his term as president of the association ended and was replaced by Randy Breaux of Central Lafourche who had been serving as first vice president.

Wayde Keiser, formally of St. Charles Catholic and now at East St. John,was promoted to first vice president while Don Jones of Plaquemine was named second vice president.

Distinguished Service Awards were presented to LSU associate sports information director Kent Lowe who also coordinates media coverage for the annual LHSCA/Coca-Cola All-Star games, and to former Morning Advocate sportswriter Ted Castillo who covered high school sports for 43 years.
