LAPLACE- This Sunday, July 25, the First United Methodist Church will perform the last service at its present location of 612 Main St.
Starting Aug.1, the congregation will start holding its services at theRiverlands Shopping Center, 1332 W. Airline Highway.Church spokesperson Sharon Bell says the new headquarters of the church is only temporary. A new United Methodist Church is being built out on U.S.Highway 51 near the Glade School.
“We hope to have the new church finished within a year, maybe sooner,” Bell said.
Lack of space and parking was cited as reasons for the move.
“We are in the process of growing,” stated Bell, “and we are outgrowing our present location. We also want to bring in more people, and we’ve hadthis land for awhile, so we decided to build on it.”Bell said the church on Main has been sold to the New Home Full Gospel Ministry out of New Orleans, and they should be moving in “within the next couple of weeks.”The final service at the Main Street church will be at 10:30 a.m., and theRev. Ken Graham invites everybody to come celebrate with them.
