Group Vice President Jim Fowler of the Dallas-based corporation, which bought Riverlands Shopping Center in June 1998, said, “We plan to lease the center up and do some cosmetic amenities.”The vice president of the company, which also manages The Esplanade Mall in Kenner, added, “We haven’t closed the door on anything,” but he noted that Winn-Dixie’s lease on its site has not expired yet.

“The first thing we want to do is take care of what we have,” Fowler said.

Carl Monica of Garyville, involved in leasing sites at Riverlands, said Winn-Dixie’s lease extends at least until 2002. He said the location isonly appropriate for a new supermarket.

Monica added that he understands MI Dollar Cinema wants to expand its facility. The center also hopes to attract upscale family restaurants and, once the St. John Library moves to its new site on U.S. Highway 51, thecompany could either make use of the current building or take it down to open up the shopping center’s visibility to the highway.
