Stingrays edge Belle Terre to remain undefeated

LAPLACE – The Riverlands Stingrays pulled away in the freestyle relays to take a 299-243 victory over cross-parish rival Belle Terre in River Parishes Swim League action Tuesday night at Riverlands.

The victory sets up a meet between two-undefeated teams when the Stingrays and Larayo meet for the league title Tuesday night at Larayo.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.Riverlands led 250-222 heading into the freestyle relays thanks to a dominating performance in the butterfly. The teams split the 8 and underdivisions before the Stingrays began to pull away with victories in the 9- 10 boys and girls and 11-12 boys relays.

The Piranhas rallied with wins in the 11-12 girls and 13-14 boys relays before the Stingrays closed with first place finishes in the 13-14 girls and 15-18 boys and girls competitions.

Riverlands opened the meet with a 59-49 advantage in the freestyle.

Victories for the Stingrays came from Neil Schexnayder, Merryn Guidry, Kyle Wilking, Jeffery Billon, Carla Lambert, Chris Dixon and Bethany Cottingham. The Piranhas got wins from Madeline Ruiz, Scott Lawless,Laura Bailey, Blake Gillies and Meg Roussel.

Belle Terre closed to within 111-105 with a 56-52 advantage in the backstroke. Victories came from Conor Ryan, Leila Boudreaux, AlexisBailey, Laura Bailey and Blake Gillies. Joel Gonzalez and Ryan Roussel tiedfor first in the 9-10 division. Wins for the Stingrays came from KyleWilking, Jeffery Billon, Kristen Abbondante and Carolann Lambert.

Belle Terre pulled ahead, 163-157, with a 58-46 win in the breaststroke.

Piranhas wins came courtesy of James Krawczyk, Coti Roussel, Alexis Bailey, Ryan Roussel, Chas McGaff, Lauren Krawczyk, Jake LaBorde and Adam Gros. Riverlands had victories from Kyle Wilking, Emily Gurdian,Kristen Abbondante and Bethany Cottingham.

Riverlands went ahead to stay, 222-187, after taking a 65-24 advantage in the butterfly. Wins came from Pierre St. Martin, Andrew Coleman,Danielle Billon, Jeffery Billon, Kristen Abbondante, Chris Dixon and Carolann Lambert as the Stingrays swept the top three places in four of the 10 age divisions. The Piranhas got wins from Alexis Bailey, LauraBailey and Blake Gillies.

Belle Terre pulled closer in the medley relays, taking five of the nine divisions to move to within 250-222. Wins for the Piranhas came from the8 and under girls, 9-10 boys and girls, 11-12 boys and 13-14 boys.

The Stingrays placed first in the 8 and under boys, 11-12 girls, 13-14 girls and 15-18 girls.
