HAROLD KELLER / L’Observateur / June 26, 1999
I met a young man Tuesday by the name of Ronald Boudreaux. I introducedmyself, and he immediately said, “So, you’re Harold Keller. You’re the manwho said that all black people are going to miss heaven by 18 inches.” Ilaughed and said, “I’ve said some stupid things in my life, but not that stupid!” “You never said that?” he questioned. “No, not the way you saidit,” I answered. “Somebody told me that you told him that,” he replied.I immediately remembered the incident. This one man, who happened to beblack, was trying to impress me and a group of people with his knowledge of the Bible. He quoted scripture after scripture and the more he did, themore I became aggravated. (Keep in mind, I wasn’t upset with thescriptures he was using. I was upset with the attitude that he had as hedelivered God’s Word.) At one point, I interrupted him and said, “You reallydon’t impress me. In fact, you could possibly miss heaven by 18 inches.”He seemed confused and asked what I meant? I touched his head and said, “You seem to have a lot of head knowledge, but if Jesus is not in your heart, you will miss heaven.” (From your head to your heart isapproximately 18 inches.)Somehow, that incident was reported with me being given the credit for saying that all black people would miss heaven by 18 inches. After Ishared the story with Mr. Boudreaux, he said, “That makes sense!”Regardless whether it makes sense or not, it’s the truth, as written in God’s Word. The problem in society today is that too many scripture-quoting people are talking instead of walking as Christians, including myself.
