WCKW-1010 AM will broadcast River Parishes Sports Talk live from the Pizza Factory in Gramercy every Thursday night from 6:15-7 p.m. The St. John Parish Recreation Department is advertising forumpires for baseball. Applicants must have experience and knowledge ofrules and regulation of the game. If qualified, please contact Debra Poche(652-9569, ext. 36), Bernell Charles (536-4299) or Danny Rome (652-5681).

Applicants must be 18 years and older. Applications are available at theRecreation Center, 1801 West Airline Highway, LaPlace, during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The recreation trailer is located behind the councilbuilding.

Reserve Christian School is forming a basketball league at the school.

The St. Charles Soccer Association is holding tryouts for its premierU-12, U-14, U-16 and U-17 leagues at J.B. Martin Middle School in Paradis.Premier U-16 tryouts will be held for boys today from 6-7:30 p.m. andJune 12 from 9-10:30 a.m.; and for girls today from 4:30-6 p.m. and June12 from 10:30 a.m. – noon.The association is also holding Premier U-17 tryouts June 25 and 28 from 6-8 p.m. and June 26 from 9-11 a.m.For more information call Philip Bordelon at 431-8903.

St. Charles Catholic head baseball coach Frank Monica is holding aseries of baseball camps this spring at the high school.

A pitchers and catchers camp will be held June 14 and 15 and the cost is $60. A hitters camp is scheduled for June 16-18 and the cost is $90. For more information contact Monica at the school at 652-3809 or at home at 652-4905.

Nicholls State University Baseball is kicking off the Jim Pizzolatto Summer Baseball Camps.

The next session, for kids ages 5-12, will run June 14-18 beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at noon for half-day campers and 3 p.m. for full-daycampers.

All campers will receive total skill instruction in the morning, while full- day campers will enjoy lunch and summer activities in the afternoon. Forhalf-day campers (9 a.m.-noon) the cost is $85. Full-day campers (9 a.m.-3p.m.) will pay a cost of $150.Session III, also for ages 5-12, will run June 21-25 and operate in the same manner as Session II. The cost for half-day campers is $85 for theweek while full-day campers will pay $150.

Southeastern Louisiana University will offer a two-day clinic for current and aspiring coaches, June 25 and 26.

The clinic is part of the university’s new Summer Coaching Institute.

Instruction will focus on football, basketball and volleyball coaching. Theclinic is open to men and women who coach or would like to coach on any level. The cost is $25 to attend.Instructors will give direction in the fundamentals of coaching and team concepts. Topics include various defense programs, “Sport and HeatRelated Injuries,” “Becoming a Volleyball Official,” “Tests and Measurements in Strength Development,” practice techniques and more.

Along with Southeastern coaches and staff and area high school coaches, scheduled instructors include Gayle Hatch, senior U.S. International coach,USA weight lifting; John Brady of LSU; Ricky Broussard of Nicholls State; Dr. Dralene Kluka of Grambling State; Steve Campbell of SouthwestMississippi Community College and Gene Rushing of Louisiana College.

Additional activites include a reception for clinic participants and retired coaches and a pre-clinic Coaches Golf Scramble on June 24 at Springview Country Club in Amite. Cost to participate is $40.In addition to the clinic, Continuing Education and the department of Kinesiology are offering a credit course designed for coaches and teachers in enhancing sport performances. The course content is based on scientificprinciples applied to the psychology of human performances and to development of strength and conditions. Students can earn undergraduateor graduate credit for the course.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
