Marathon awarded at safety conferenceL’Observateur / June 9, 1999GARYVILLE – Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC’s Louisiana Refining Division recently received four awards at the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association’s (NPRA) ninth annual National Safety Conference in Dallas. The NPRA recognized individual facilities and contractors in therefining and petrochemical industries for their excellent record of safe operations during calendar year 1998.

Marathon Ashland’s Garyville Refinery earned the Gold Award for a 35 percent reduction in the total recordable incidence rate in 1998, as compared to the average total for the three previous years. The refineryreceived two awards for safety – the first in recognition of one million employee hours without a lost time incident, and the second for one year with no lost time incidents. The Award for Meritorious SafetyPerformance was awarded to the refinery for achieving a total recordable incident rate of 1.2 for the calendar year 1998.The presentation of the NPRA safety awards is part of a comprehensive program developed by the Association’s Fire and Accident Prevention Committee to promote safety awareness and further reduce accidents in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries and to publicly recognize the excellent record for safety in operations which the industry has compiled.
