Bulldogs, Cardinals square off again

LUTCHER – The Lutcher Bulldogs are looking to make third time the charm today against E.D. White.The Bulldogs and Cardinals will be squaring off for the third time this season. But while the first two were played with the District 10-3A titleon the line, today’s game takes on even more importance – this time the stakes are the Class 3A state championship.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at E.D. White.Lutcher comes into the game with a 22-9 record while E.D. White enterswith a mark of 28-3. Lutcher defeated Benton, 8-1, Tuesday to advance tothe title game while E.D. White handled Independence by the same scoreWednesday at Southeastern Louisiana University.

In Tuesday’s game, Benton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Lyle Harmon tripled and scored as Jeremy Alford hit a sacrifice fly to right-center. Lutcher came right back in the bottom of the inning, scoringtwo runs on a double by Cleavon Webster and a single by Rusty Crosslin.

Risley St. Germaine scored in the second and Damian Ursin drove home arun in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.

Leading 5-1 in the fifth, the Bulldogs came up with a clutch defensive play. After the ninth-place hitter opened the inning with a single, Lutcherstarter Bo Louque got the lead-off hitter to ground sharply into a double play.

“That was a big double play,” Lutcher assistant coach Kim Lacombe said.

“It took the wind out of their sails and gave us a lift.”Wesley Louque, batting .538 in the playoffs, added a two-run single in athree-run fifth.

Bo Louque (7-3) went the distance, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out six. The triple by Harmon was the only baserunnerLouque allowed past second in the game.

“It was a good performance by Lutcher,” Lutcher coach Scott Tribble said.

“Bo had a bad outing (against Notre Dame in the quarterfinals) and came back with a good one. He responded to the challenge.”
