RIVERSIDE PLACES THIRD AT STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Riverside golf team shot a 651 to place third at the Division IV state golf tournament held at Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe Wednesday afternoon.

St. Frederick shot a 635 to win the team title. Newman was second with a643. University was fourth with a 661 followed by Loyola with a 682.Brett Bergeron led the Rebels with a two-day total of 157, finishing in seventh place in the individual competition. Brandon Aydlatt of St.Frederick won the state title with a one-over par 145. University’s JohnBurbank and Newman’s Nick Hayes tied for second with a five-over par 149.

HAHNVILLE GOLFERS PLACE 14TH IN DIVISION I – The Hahnville golf team placed 14th at the Division I state golf tournament, shooting a 703 at Gemstone Plantation Golf and Country Club in Franklinton Wednesday.

Jesuit won its second consecutive state title by shooting a 617. Sulphurwas second with a 623, followed by Mandeville (636), Catholic of Baton Rouge (645) and Byrd of Shreveport (653).

Hahnville was led by Jon Borne, who tied for 20th with a 161. J.T. Mitchellof Sulphur won the state title, defeating New Iberia’s Avery Vincent on the fourth hole of the playoff after both finished regulation with a five- over par 149. Jesuit’s Peter Rivas and Byrd’s Paul Pfingston tied for thirdwith a 151.

Jared Boudreaux shot a 166 for Hahnville to tie for 40th. Jake Dempsterhad a 187 to tie for 82nd with teammate Clint Ory right behind with a 189 ti tie for 84th. Jared Oglesby had a 202 to tie for 93rd.Destrehan’s Ryan Dis-hongh, the Region III champion, shot a 173 to tie for 54th. Teammate Wenning had a 215 to place 95th.

WAGUESPACK TOPS SLU’S SEASON HOME RUN LIST – Macky Waguespack, a St. Charles Catholic graduate, hit three home runs inSoutheastern Louisiana University’s 10-6 victory over Southern Mississippi Tuesday to set the school record for home runs in a season.

Waguespack, a senior, has 22 home runs this year, surpassing the record of 21 set by Jeremy Gross last year.

It was the second time this season Waguespack has hit three home runs in a game and his sixth multi-home run game of the season.

The game marked the last game at Alumni Field for Waguespack, who already holds the career record for home runs for both Southeastern and the Southland Conference.

Waguespack was also named recently as SLU’s Male Athlete of the Year.

The Lions will play in the Southland Conference Tournament next weekend at Northeast Louisiana University. Southeastern enters the tournament asthe sixth seed and will face NLU in the openier
