The St. John Parish Recreation Department is advertising forumpires for baseball. Applicants must have experience and knowledge ofrules and regulation of the game.

Applicants must be 18 years and older. Applications are available at theRecreation Center, 1801 West Airline Highway, LaPlace, during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The recreation trailer is located behind the councilbuilding.

Reserve Christian School is forming a basketball league at the school.

Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17 age groups. If interested sign up at the school on the night ofthe games.

The Nicholls State University Athletic Department Staff, including the school’s 15 head coaches, will hold a caravan that will make stops in seven South Louisiana cities during the month of May.

The caravan will be at Bull’s Corner Restaurant in LaPlace Thursday and will also make stops at the First and Last Chance Cafe in Donald-sonville May 10, the Morgan City Holiday Inn May 11, Randolph’s in Golden Meadow May 13 and Beck’s in Raceland May 17.

Each event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a $10 charge fordinner, along with a cash bar.

St. Charles Catholic head baseball coach Frank Monica is holding aseries of baseball camps this spring at the high school.

A general camp will be held June 7-11. The cost is $100. A pitchers andcatchers camp will be held June 14 and 15 and the cost is $60. A hitterscamp is scheduled for June 16-18 and the cost is $90.

Nicholls State University Baseball is kicking off the Jim Pizzolatto Summer Baseball Camps.

Session I, for kids ages 13-18, will run June 7-11 beginning at 1 p.m. andending at 4 p.m. Instruction will include hitting, pitching, fielding,catching, baserunning and throwing. The cost of Session I is $85.Session II, for kids ages 5-12, will run June 14-18 beginning at 9 a.m. andending at noon for half-day campers and 3 p.m. For full-day campers. Allcampers will receive total skill instruction in the morning, while full-day campers will enjoy lunch and summer activities in the afternoon. For half-day campers (9 a.m.-noon) the cost is $85. Full-day campers (9 a.m.-3 p.m.)will pay a cost of $150.

Session III, also for ages 5-12, will run June 21-25 and operate in the same manner as Session II. The cost for half-day campers is $85 for theweek while full-day campers will pay $150.

All camps will be held at the NSU baseball field. NSU coaches and playerswill do the instruction. Campers will be matched according to age andability.

Southeastern Louisiana University will offer a two-day clinic for current and aspiring coaches, June 25 and 26.

The clinic is part of the university’s new Summer Coaching Institute.

Instruc-tion will focus on football, basketball and volleyball coaching. Theclinic is open to men and women who coach or would like to coach on any level. The cost is $25 to attend.Instructors will give direction in the fundamentals of coaching and team concepts. Topics include various defense programs, “Sport and HeatRelated Injuries,” “Becoming a Volleyball Official,” “Tests and Measurements in Strength Development,” practice techniques and more.

Along with Southeastern coaches and staff and area high school coaches, scheduled instructors include Gayle Hatch, senior U.S. International coach,USA weight lifting; John Brady of LSU; Ricky Broussard of Nicholls State; Dr. Dralene Kluka of Grambling State; Steve Campbell of SouthwestMississippi Community College and Gene Rushing of Louisiana College.

Additional activites include a reception for clinic participants and retired coaches and a pre-clinic Coaches Golf Scramble on June 24 at Springview Country Club in Amite. Cost to participate is $40.In addition to the clinic, Continuing Education and the department of Kinesiology are offering a credit course designed for coaches and teachers in enhancing sport performances.

The course content is based on scientific principles applied to the psychology of human performances and to development of strength and conditions. Students can earn undergraduate or graduate credit for thecourse.

Southeastern Louisiana University and the Steve Carter Tennis Camp will be hosting the 21st Lion Tennis Camp on the campus of SLU.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
