WCKW-1010 AM will broadcast River Parishes Sports Talk live from the Pizza Factory in Gramercy every Thursday night from 6:15-7 p.m. The St. John Parish Recreation Department is advertising forumpires for baseball. Applicants must be 18 years and older. Applications are available at theRecreation Center, 1801 West Airline Highway, LaPlace, during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The recreation trailer is located behind the councilbuilding.

The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. Drawings are to be held on the 28th of each month. For ticket information call coach Don Fernandez at St. Charles Catholic at652-3029.

The Lutcher High School Tennis Tournament will be held today at 8 a.m. At the tennis complex on the school’s campus. Events include men’ssingles and doubles and ladies’ singles and doubles. NOAH Boosters, Inc. is holding its Little League Opening Day and FirstAnnual Community Aware-ness day at the park today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Registration is still open for boys and girls ages 5 and 6 and ages 13 and up. Registration is closed for ages 7-12 but a waiting list is an option.The community is invited to come by and support the youth in the parish as NOAH celebrates its 15th year of Little League. A free fingerprintingkit/information and safety tips for parents and children is also open to the public.

The Louisiana Shooting Association will conduct a highpower shooting clinic and match today and tomorrow at Ft. Polk’s Range 23 onMill Creek Road, approximately one mile east of Chaffie Road (La. Hwy.184). The two-day event will be co-hosted by the Southwest La. Rifle andPistol Club and Operations Group JRTC, Ft. Polk.The clinic will be a non-firing seminar that will discuss topics such as range safety, target scoring and proper handling of the M-1 Garand rifle, during firing of the national match course of fire. The clinic will begin at1 p.m. Saturday and is mandatory for all new shooters or anyone who doesnot have a current NRA Highpower classification card.

The rifle match will be Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. A limited number ofM-1 Garands will be available for issue and service ball 30 caliber ammunition will be issued. Shooters are welcome to use their own M-1Garands. Shhoters may also use M1A’s or AR-15 rifles, but must furnishtheir own equipment and ammo (58 rounds needed).

The cost of the clinic is $35 which includes use of the M-1 and ammunition. The cost is $15 for shooters who use their own rifles andammo.

Completion of the rifle clinic and match will authorize the shooter to purchase from the U.S. government an M-1 garand rifle from the civilianmarksmanship program (formerly DCM).

St. Charles Catholic head baseball coach Frank Monica is holding aseries of baseball camps this spring at the high school.

A general camp will be held June 7-11. The cost is $100. A pitchers andcatchers camp will be held June 14 and 15 and the cost is $60. A hitterscamp is scheduled for June 16-18 and the cost is $90.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
