The St. John Parish Recreation Department is advertising forumpires for baseball. Applicants must have experience and knowledge ofrules and regulation of the game. If qualified, please contact Debra Poche(652-9569, ext. 36), Bernell Charles (536-4299) or Danny Rome (652-5681).

Applicants must be 18 years and older. Applications are available at theRecreation Center, 1801 West Airline Highway, LaPlace, during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The recreation trailer is located behind the councilbuilding.

Ascension of Our Lord is holding baseball registration tomorrow from 12:30-3 p.m. at the school.Registration will be held for T-ball (boys and girls) 4-6-years old; baseball (boys) from 7-13 years-old; softball (girls) 10-13 years-old; and cabbage ball (girls) 7-13 years-old. St. Peter School’s annual Two Mile Fun Run/Walk will be held inconjunction with its Spring Festival today beginning at 8:30 a.m.The entry fee is $8. Participants may register by calling the school forregistration forms or may register the morning of the race at 8 a.m. infront of the school. The runners will race first with the walkers beginningat approximately 9 a.m.Following the Run/Walk, there will be a “Celebrity Golf Cart Race” from St. Peter Church to the school on West Seventh Street. Participatingcelebrities will be announced at a later date.

The River Road Chapter of the Tulane Booster Club will have head coach Chris Scelfo as the guest speaker for this month’s meeting, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Public Relations Building in Lutcher. The Louisiana Shooting Association will conduct a highpower shooting clinic and match April 24-25 at Ft. Polk’s Range 23 on Mill CreekRoad, approximately one mile east of Chaffie Road (La. Hwy. 184). Thetwo-day event will be co-hosted by the Southwest La. Rifle and PistolClub and Operations Group JRTC, Ft. Polk.The clinic will be a non-firing seminar that will discuss topics such as range safety, target scoring and proper handling of the M-1 Garand rifle, during firing of the national match course of fire. The clinic will begin at1 p.m. Saturday and is mandatory for all new shooters or anyone who doesnot have a current NRA Highpower classification card.

The rifle match will be Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. A limited number ofM-1 Garands will be available for issue and service ball 30 caliber ammunition will be issued. Shooters are welcome to use their own M-1Garands. Shhoters may also use M1A’s or AR-15 rifles, but must furnishtheir own equipment and ammo (58 rounds needed).

The cost of the clinic is $35 which includes use of the M-1 and ammunition. The cost is $15 for shooters who use their own rifles andammo.

Completion of the rifle clinic and match will authorize the shooter to purchase from the U.S. government an M-1 garand rifle from the civilianmarksmanship program (formerly DCM). Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
