Marsha Martin is trading one classroom for another this year.

Martin, 44, has been teaching kindergarten at Norco Elementary School for more than seven years but is taking a year’s sabbatical to pursue her master’s degree in early childhood education.

The LaPlace native is also working on her certification to teach gifted and talented.

A widow, Martin is raising two children. Her son Ryan is a student atLoyola University in New Orleans. Her daughter Mindy, 16, is a student atDestrehan High School.

Martin also works with the youth group at St. Peter’s Church in Reserve,where she is a member.

In her spare time she enjoys movies, reading and shopping with her daughter.

Martin said when she finishes her master’s degree she will heading toward her next goal – building a house in LaPlace to be near her family.Back to Top
