Bulldogs defeat Wildcats to remain in playoff hunt

LUTCHER – Lutcher remained in the playoff hunt with a 12-2 victory over cross-parish rival St. James Tuesday afternoon.The Bulldogs (14-9, 4-2) lost at district leader E.D. White (19-3, 6-0)Thursday. Lutcher plays Riverside in a doubleheader today.St. James (8-12, 1-5) hosts the Cardinals Tuesday.St. James went to bat in the top of the first, facing Lutcher starter RustyCrosslin who sent the Wildcats down in order.
Wesley Louque led off for Lutcher in the bottom of the inning and bounced a single up the middle. David Miller then reached on an error to put runnersat first and second.
St. James starter Seth Folse picked Louque off second with Milleradvancing on the play. Troy Haydel followed by dropping a single to right,putting runners at the corners with one out. A steal by Haydel and a walkby Cleavon Webster loaded the bases.
Bo Louque was hit by a pitch, scoring Miller with the first run of the game.
After Folse walked Damian Ursin to force in another run, St. James coachDavey Clement went to the bullpen. Crosslin then drew a walk to scoreWebster to make it 3-0.
An errant pick-off throw brought in two runs, making it 5-0, Lutcher.
Jared Babin would bring in the sixth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring courtesy runner Rob Bleakley.
Wesley Louque drew a walk from St. James reliever Mitch Cortez to leadoff the second. After Miller singled to left and both runners moved up on awild pitch, Haydel launched a 3-2 fastball off the wall in left-center field for a stand-up triple, bringing home the two runs to make it 8-0. Asacrifice fly by Webster brought in Haydel from third. Bo Louque kept therally alive with a stand-up triple to center field and scored on a balk by Cortez to give the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead after two innings.
Lee Poche gave Lutcher a 11-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a home run.
St. James came back with two runs in the fourth. Boyd Laurent hit a linerto right for a single and Bo Bourgeois walked with both runners scoring on wild throws. Lutcher answered with a run in the bottom of the inning asJeremy Martin walked and scored on a wild pitch.
Laurent and Bourgeois walked with one out in the top of the fifth. One outlater, Dustin Deslatte beat out an infield hit. Lutcher reliever Lane Zimmerthen got Chris Hymel to fly out to end the game with the 10-run rule.
