Plaisance receives five student journalism awardsL’Observateur / March 10, 1999LAPLACE – A L’Observateur general assignment reporter received five awards from the Southeast Journalism Conference for student journalists, held Feb. 25-27 at the University of Southwestern Louisiana.Stacey Plaisance, 22, a December 1998 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and a 1994 graduate of Hahnville High School, came away with the awards, based on her work at The Advocate of Baton Rouge and L’Observateur.

Plaisance received an honorable mention as Journalist of the Year for 1998, first place in the resume competition judged by the Associated Press, first and third places in the photography awards and a second place for public service.
Her public service award was for her work in attempting to free the SLU campus newspaper, The Lion’s Roar, of undue university administration influence.
Her journalism career began early, working as a weekly columnist for Hahnville High in the Times-Picayune during her senior year. She alsoreceived a Journalism Scholarship Award in 1994 from that newspaper.
At SLU, Plaisance worked for more than a year as a correspondent for The Advocate, covering court trials, general assignment news and regular beats such as school board, city and parish council meetings.
Also, while at SLU, Plaisance worked for the student newspaper for four years, including two as editor-in-chief. She was honored as Newcomer ofthe Year for 1994-95 and promoted to Campus Life editor before assuming the top job.
Plaisance has been employed part-time at L’Observateur since August 1998, covering general assignment news throughout the River Parishes.
She is the daughter of Harold and Linda Plaisance of Lafitte, formerly of Luling.
