The River Region Ballet is once again in rehearsals for its spring performance.

By popular demand and to enhance the enjoyment of both young and old audience members, an original fairy tale ballet will be presented.

“Royal Mischief,” conceived and choreographed by artistic director Susan Ferrara, is based on the tale of Prince Kamar and the Princess Budur. Set inChina and a faraway island, the future of two royal families are intertwined by some mischievous elves. The music of Ravel, Grieg and Mendelssohn, combinedwith traditional Chinese melodies guides the audience through this endearing fantasy. An additional highlight of this year’s program will be the inclusion ofthe pas de deux from “La Sylphide” with music by Lovenskjold and choreography by the famous Auguste Bournonville.

The presentation of the “classics,” along with professional guest artists, is an ongoing mission of the River Region Ballet, ensuring future generations the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the art of ballet. To this end EleanorBernard Carney and Ian Carney have been contracted to dance the lead roles of Princess Budur and Prince Kamar in the ballet “Royal Mischief” and perform the pas de deux from “La Sylphide.” This will be a return engagement for Eleanor andIan Carney. Both dancersare currently in their fifth season with Montgomery Ballet.
