DEAR EDITOR: The Norco Civic Association which numbers 364 members from all sections of Norco, in full operation for the past two years, is working diligently to represent all citizens of Norco fairly, without exception, with no affiliation with any other Norco citizens group.
The Norco Civic Association does not support the statements and accusations made by the Sierra Club and the Concerned Citizens of Norco.
The Concerned Citizens of Norco does not represent the majority of the residents in Norco but only a few residents.
These false accusations and negative publicity is an indication that these groups are out to discredit Shell and to divide the Norco community.
The Norco community consists of many senior citizens and residents who do not have the diseases and illnesses that these groups claim. Manyresidents who live in the same proximity as these Norco Concerned Citizens have not experienced the problems that this group alleges.
Property values have not plummeted in Norco as these groups claim. On thecontrary, property values are on the rise. A new subdivision of equaldistance to these residents is being build adjacent to Shell Chemical. Newhomes are also being built throughout the town of Norco.
Shell has been a good neighbor to the community. The company and itsemployees are safety and environmentally conscious. Many of Shell’semployees and retirees are actively involved in the community through education and many other outreach activities improving the overall quality of life.
The NCA will continue to put first on our agenda the health and welfare of our citizens. Should any industry cause unnecessary pollution and/orhealth hazards, the NCA will address these issues in an appropriate manner.
Norco will soon celebrate 75 years. It is a good place to live and work!
Sal Digirolamo, president Norco Civic Association
