Once more, the River Parishes experienced a safe and sane Carnival season, according to local police officials, with few incidents to spoil the holiday weekend.
The people of the region should be congratulated for not only behaving themselves but providing a good example for their children and any out- of-town guests here to experience a family-oriented Carnival weekend.
There was plenty to see and a lot of work to appreciate and we can mark the last River Parishes Mardi Gras of the 20th Century as a rousing success.
We also hope children pay attention to the good lessons taught – that fun and good times do not come out of a bottle of booze or from a plastic bag of illegal drugs.
For those who failed to meet that standard, we can only hope you’ll still be here next year to try again.
Love, fellowship and good sense are the hallmarks of a great Carnival season.
