JASMIN MAY BE HEADING TO CLEMSON – St. James running back ChadJasmin, the River Parishes offensive player of the year, has verbally committed to Clemson according to recent reports.
The all-State selection had verbally committed to Tulane last summer when Tommy Bowden was the Green Wave’s head coach. After Bowden leftfor Clemson in November, Jasmin began considering other schools including LSU and Nebraska.
Prospects may take official trips to schools until the weekend of Jan. 30-31. National signing day is Feb. 2.TAYLOR NAMED TO ALL-STATE TEAM – East St. John’s Yoshika Taylorwas recently named to the all-state cross country team by the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association. Athletes were selected based ontimes and place finishes at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s state meet held in Natchitoches in November.
Taylor placed fifth at the state meet with a time of 12 minutes, 33 seconds, helping the Lady Cats to a 18th place finish.
MURRAY NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM – Lutcher’s Dustin Murray was recently selected to the Capital City Swim League all-star team.
Murray helped the Bulldogs to their third-straight Class 3A state championship in 1997. The senior became the first Lutcher swimmer towin an individual state title, winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.87 seconds. He also placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with atime of 1:05.75. Murray was also a member of the state champion 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay squads.
