BASTIAN NEW ORLEANS – Paul Lincoln Bastian, 84, a native of Vacherie and a resident of New Orleans for 57 years, died Jan. 9. He was the husband ofSarah V. Bastian and father of Carolyn Magee, Debra Andrews, RonaldWellman and Vernon Bastian.

He was also the brother of Alma Becnel, Mary Clark and Pearl, Beatrice and Anicet Bastian.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 14 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, NewOrleans, with interment at St. Philip Cemetery, Vacherie.DENT NEW ORLEANS – Ernest Dent, 46, a native of Killona and a resident of New Orleans, died Jan. 11. He was the father of Ernest Dent Jr.He was also the son of Willie Ruth Dent and brother of Catherine Brooks, Gilda, Grace, Deborah, Margie and Larry Dent.

Services are today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home,New Orleans, with interment at Green Street Cemetery.

DUGAS CONVENT – Joseph H. Dugas Sr., 87, a native and resident of Convent, diedJan. 12. He was the husband of Una Labat Dugas and father of Joseph DugasJr.

He was also the son of the late Joseph P. and Amelia Lambert Dugas andbrother of the late Virginia Dunn, Corrine Wederstrandt and Roger Dugas.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 13 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Convent, withinterment at the church mausoleum.

GAUBERT NORCO – Beverly Granier Gaubert, 68, a native and resident of Norco, died Jan. 12. She was the wife of the late Norman Gaubert Sr. and mother ofDorine Cambre and Norman “Pee-Wee” Gaubert Jr.

She was also the daughter of the late Ignace and Julia Hebert Granier and sister of Eula Mae Blanchard and the late Doris Faucheux, Ethel Hammond, Vivian Caronna and Francis and Irvin Granier.

She is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norco, withinterment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.HAMILTON LAPLACE – Alice McSpadden Hamilton, 90, a native of Opelousas and a resident of LaPlace for 23 years, died Jan. 12. She was the wife of thelate Dr. Louis F. Hamilton and step-mother of Nancy Stanberry and LouisHamilton Jr.

She was also the sister of Eugene McSpadden and the late Bell Brown, Beatrice Townley and William and Samuel McSpadden.

She is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 14 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.LAICHE NORCO – Mae Rose Arceneaux Laiche, 63, a native of Reserve, long time resident of Norco and a resident of LaPlace for 15 years, died Jan. 12. Shewas the wife of Morris Laiche Sr. and mother of Doris Hebert and MorrisJr. and Frank Laiche.She is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Jan. 14 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home,Norco, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.MANSON LAPLACE – Gilbert J. Manson Jr., 67, a native of New Orleans and a residentof LaPlace, died Jan. 13. He was the husband of Elizabeth Manson andfather of Michael, Thomas and Mark Manson.

He was also the son of Vera Messina and the late Gilbert Manson.

He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 14 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace.

MITCHELL EDGARD – Corey Anthony “La-Git” Mitchell, 23, a native and resident of Edgard, died Jan. 12. He was the companion of Terri Gauthier and father ofKe’Ron and Ke’Ira Fletcher and Taylor Kori Mitchell.

He was also the son of Ronald and Doreen Mitchell and brother of Kala Rounds, Anitra Celestine, Karen Blackman, Devonta and Andreanecia Morris and Ronnie, Shane and Moses Rounds.

He was also the grandson of Septem Mitchell Sr., Milton and Julia “Sue”Brown and the late Laura Mitchell.

Services were held Jan. 15 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard,with interment at the church cemetery.

PETIT CONVENT – Rachel Marie Petit, 33, a native and resident of Hester, died Jan. 13. She was the daughter of Mel Petit and the late Peggy Brignac Petitand sister of Clair Millet and Kyle Petit.

Services were held Jan. 15 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Convent, withinterment at the church mausoleum.

SMITH RESERVE – Noel “Mannie Boy” Smith Jr., 75, a resident of Reserve, diedJan. 13. He was the father of Carla Alexander and the late Noel White Sr.and step-father of Barbara Lumar, Lorraine Sanders, Joann Lewis and Sharon, Floyd, Laura, Paul, Donald, Michael and Kenneth Eugene.

He was also the son of the late Noel Smith Sr. and Valentine Wallace andbrother of Eleanor Batiste, Victoria Spence, Marguerite Perrilloux, Stella Mae Victor and Clarence Smith Sr.

He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church,Reserve, with interment at Phillipian Baptist Cemetery, Convent.

Visitation starts at 9 a.m.SPAHR DES ALLEMANDS – Thelma Duet Spahr, 72, a native of Galliano and a resident of Des Allemands, died Jan. 13. She was the wife of William F.Spahr Jr., mother of Thelezia Folse, William III and Robin Spahr and step-mother of Keith and Donald Spahr.

She was also the daughter of the late Howell and Elvida Callais Duet and sister of Junice Duet and Norma Rhodes.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was co-founder and proprietor of Spahr’s Restaurant since 1968.

Services were held Jan. 15 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands,with interment at the church mausoleum.

THOMPSON NORCO – Ethel Howe Thompson, 50, a resident of St. Rose, died Jan. 13. Shewas the wife of the late Estes Thompson and mother of Sabrina Huffman.

She was also the sister of Barbara Chatelain, Mable Ratliff, Bill and Johnny Howe and the late Mary Elizabeth LeBlanc, Betty Strickland, Ronald and James Howe.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home,Norco, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitationstarts at 8 a.m.
