Late run gets St. James past WSJ

EDGARD – St. James ended the game on a 14-2 run to pull away to a 52-40victory at West St. John Tuesday night.Landrell Armont led the Lady Wildcats (4-12) with 23 points. LawandaHarry added 19 points, 15 in the second half.
West St. John (5-6) was paced by Crystal Stipe with 12 points. IreonBethancourt chipped in with 10 points while Hillary Howard tossed in seven.
With the score tied at 38 with 3:30 left, Harry drove past the basket and hooked in a shot. Armont and Harry each hit two free throws and Harryadded a fade-a-way jumper to make it 46-38 before West St. John used atimeout with 2:08 left.
St. James increased its lead to 11 on a layup by Armont and a free throwby Emma Smith. Harry got the rebound for the Lady Wildcats and TamaraNoel followed with a 3-pointer from the right arc to make it 52-38.
Bethancourt got West St. John back on the scoreboard by grabbing arebound and putting it back with a jumper but the Lady Rams could not pull any closer.
West St. John opened the game by taking a 3-0 lead on a put back byHoward but would go scoreless the rest of the quarter. St. James rallied torun off eight straight points on a jump shot by Smith, a three-point play by Armont and a turnaround jumper by Harry on the left baseline.
West St. John answered by scoring the first five points of the secondquarter, tying the game as Janoll Morris took a pass from Howard inside.
St. James went on another run, taking a 14-8 lead on a put back by Armont. The Lady Rams came back down the court with Bethancourt burying a 3- pointer from the right side. She was fouled on the shot and hit the freethrow to bring the Lady Rams to within two. Julia Roussell tied the gameby banking in a jumper but St. James went ahead 16-14 at halftime asArmont banked in a shot as the buzzer sounded.
The lead continued to bounce back and forth with the Lady Rams taking a 31-27 lead at the end of the quarter on a layup by Donyell Stipe.
Armont grabbed a steal on the right sideline and took it in to give the Lady Wildcats a 36-33 lead. Armont followed by finding Harry under the basketon a fast break, making it 38-33 with 5:35 remaining.
After a timeout by West St. John, the Lady Rams tied the score at 38 asStipe found Niesha Green driving the left baseline.
