Work crews clean up along U.S. 51

LAPLACE – Inmate work crews supervised by St. John Parish Sheriff’scorrections officers swept and trimmed and hauled away overgrown grass from the curbs and picked up trash from Manchac to Interstate 10 along U.S. Highway 51.Warden Steven Guidry commented, “It’s something everybody likes to see.”The all-volunteer work crews, totaling more than 50 inmates, were mostly pulled from Sheriff Wayne L. Jones’s military-style boot campprogram supervised by Sgt. Ernest Martin, himself a former Army drillinstructor.
