BREAUX BRIDGE – Chad Jasmin rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns and the St. James’ defense held Breaux Bridge to 149 total yards as theWildcats rolled to a 40-12 quarterfinal victory Friday night.

The victory sets up a showdown with No. 1-ranked Evangel next Friday atSt. James. Evangel defeated Amite, 42-22, Friday night.The Wildcats (12-1) have lost to the Eagles in the playoffs each of the last two years, in the Class 3A finals in 1996 and in the semifinals last season. Breaux Bridge completed its season at 11-2.Jasmin did his damage on 18 carries. Corey Webster ran for 46 yards onfour carries and completed 2 of his 6 passes for 38 yards and a score. TheWildcats rolled up 375 yards in offense, 322 on the ground.

Chad Jasmin opened the scoring with an 8-yard run in the first quarter.

Alvin Bartholomew added the extra point to make it 7-0.

Breaux Bridge quickly answered as Domanick Davis took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 97 yards for the score. The Wildcats kept the leadby blocking the extra point.

Jasmin came back in the second quarter, this time scoring on an 83-yard run. Bartholomew’s kick made it 14-6. Ray Weber then recovered a fumblein the end zone, increasing the lead to 20-6 at halftime.

Jasmin scored his third touchdown on the night on a 4-yard run in the third quarter and added the two-point conversion to make it 28-6. DevonDabney added a 7-yard run to increase the margin to 34-6 at the end of the third quarter. Dabney would finish with 38 yards on six carries.Webster went through the air in the fourth quarter, connecting with Weber on a 30-yard scoring strike to make it 40-6. Doug Johnson would concludethe scoring with a 4-yard run.

Lutcher 35, Washington-Marion 13

LAKE CHARLES – Lutcher broke open a scoreless game with a 28-point outburst on its way to a 35-13 victory over Washington-Marion in the state quarterfinals Friday night.

Lutcher (11-2) will host Independence next Friday in the semifinals.

Independence defeated Springhill, 20-18, Friday night.

Washington-Marion concluded its season at 7-6.

Wesley Louque carried 15 times for 126 yards and a touchdown and also had a touchdown receiving to lead the Bulldogs. Thomas Ricks completed 7of his 15 passes for 116 yards. Kenneth Johnson caught two passes for 52yards while Louque had three for 47.

The Bulldogs defense held Washington-Marion to 150 total yards in offense. Greg Cole led the Charging Indians with 56 yards on nine carriesand completed six of his 15 passes for 54 yards.

Louque got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a 6- yard reception from Ricks. The kick failed, leaving the score at 6-0. TheBulldogs then used a bit of trickery as running back Damian Ursin passed to Kenneth Johnson for a 39-yard score off the halfback option. Ricks thenpassed to Kevin Beckett for the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.

William Adams made it 21-0 with a 1-yard run. That lead would grow to28-0 at the half as Ursin scored from 14 yards out.

Washington-Marion got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Cole. Jonathan Brown added a 1-yard run to bring the ChargingIndians to within 28-13 heading into the final quarter.

But Lutcher would put the game away as Louque scored on a 5-yard run and Lane Zimmer added the extra point.
