The St. Charles Catholic Athletic Association is holding a monthly$1,000 raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold each month at a cost of $20per ticket. The St. Charles Department of Parks and Recreation is holdingbasketball coaches meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1 for 9-10Franchise/Recreation League ( 7 p.m.) and 6-7-8 Recreation League (8 p.m.)and Wednesday, Dec. 2 for 11-12 Franchise/Recreation League (7 p.m.) and13-14 Franchise/Recreation League boys and girls (8 p.m.). The Lakeview Soccer Club in conjunction with the Louisiana Soccer Association will host a Youth Module level coaching certification course for under 6 and under 8 coaches. The course is open to all coaches and willrun from 9 a.m. To 3:30 p.m. The course will be conducted on December 12at the Lakeview Soccer Club fields in City Park in New Orleans.

The AAU of St. James Basketball, Inc. tryouts for the girls 13-year-old team will be held Sunday, December 13 at the St. James High Schoolgym from 1-8 p.m. Girls making their 14th birthday after January 1, 1999qualify for the tryouts. The Louisiana Hunters Against Poachers will have their annual meeting Wednesday, December 16 at 6 p.m. at the St. James Boat Club onHighway 61 in Gramercy. The public is invited.There will be a jambalaya dinner, raffles, vendor displays, door prizes and guest speakers from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, political representatives and special guests. There will also be a deermount display (bring your trophies) and a Big Buck Contest.

St. Charles Catholic Head Baseball Coach Frank Monica is holdingtwo baseball camps at the school over the Christmas holidays. A camp forpitchers and catchers will be held Dec. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.The costs for the camp is $60.

A camp for hitters will be held Dec. 28-30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The costis $90.

Southeastern Louisiana University will begin its eighth season with the SLU Sports Radio Network this season. The Sports Network featuresflagship stations KSLU 90.9 FM along with two affiliates and globalaccessibility through the World Wide Web.

This year’s announcing team features play-by-play announcer Mark Willoughby and former Lions basketball player Duane Donald. Willoughbyhas been the voice of Lions basketball since the 1994-95 season.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
