DEAR EDITOR: I am writing to comment on Tammy Gendron’s letter concerning Planning and Zoning Director Ms. Laurette Thymes. First, Ms. Gendron’s comments onMs. Thymes’ actions are completely unwarranted since Ms. Thymes was theonly person hired to interpret the planning and zoning laws when they aren’t quite clear. If it were up to the constituents to interpret the law,planning and zoning or otherwise, we’d be able to build and do just about anything we wanted! That is why we have people like Ms. Thymes to tell uswhen a law is clear and specific or not.

And Ms. Thymes didn’t deem herself the only person smart enough tointerpret planning and zoning law, the Parish Council did! How? By hiring her and not the constituents. Also, it’s troubling to read that Ms. Gendronfeels the need to agree with a certain councilman whenever he states the obvious. Yes, the Parish Council’s job is supposed to be to work for thepeople, and abide by the law, and hire people to interpret the law when it isn’t clear, and to stick by their interpreter’s decisions. Unfortunately,impartiality is not some of our councilmen’s strong point. And if TammyGendron doesn’t feel like paying Ms. Thymes’ salary with her tax dollars,she’s perfectly welcome to move to another parish. We’ll be no worse offfor it.
