The River Region Arts and Humanities Council presented the St. JamesHistorical Society with its Angelus Award at the second annual Arts and Humanities Luncheon Saturday.

The $500 award was endowed by the RRAHC to honor those who have made a significant impact on the arts and/or humanities in the River Region.

According to the RRAHC, the St. James Historical Society was selected asthe first recipient of the award for “its inspired and creative work preserving the history of St. James, and for building a bridge between thehumanities and the arts through that work.”RRAHC hopes that by honoring the region’s arts and humanities supporters, it will help to raise awareness of the need for more widespread arts and humanities programs in the region.

Along with the monetary award this year’s recipient was given the Angelus Award statue which was commissioned from and created by Hahnville artist Lorraine Gendron. A plaque has also been commissionedfrom Gendron to be displayed in the parish library of the award winner.

This year’s RRAHC luncheon was held at the historic home of Mara and Eddie Landrum in Gramercy.
