DEAR EDITOR: Thymes called down for ‘mere’ comment

DEAR EDITOR: This letter is in reference to the article in the Saturday, Nov. 14 editionof L’Observateur concerning Planning and Zoning Director Laurette Thymes.

She was addressing the Parish Council at its meeting Tuesday.

Ms. Thymes was upset that the parish government would accept the wordof a “mere constituent” over hers. It would seem that Ms. Thymes deemsherself the only person intelligent enough to read and understand the parish planning and zoning laws and that we “mere constituents” couldn’t possibly comprehend them.

I have to agree with Councilman Steve Thornton when he says the council’s job is to work for the people, the “mere constituent.” I would also have toagree with Ms. Thymes when she says, “she doesn’t belong in thatposition.”Because you see, Ms. Thymes, the “mere constituents” plus our “mere taxdollars” equal your salary.
